How To Make Flash Brewed Coffee
If you love cold brew coffee, then this blog post is for you!
We love cold brew coffee but found that there was some limitations around making and storing, enter ‘Flash Brew Coffee’ the ultimate alternative to cold brew coffee.
Cold Brew is great but it has it’s disadvantages, cold brew coffee uses cold water and while it is sweet it doesn’t have the same amount of flavour or acidity you can expect from a pour over coffee. Cold brew coffee also takes 12h - 24h to brew, making it challenging to serve on demand in a bar / cafe.
Flash brew coffee on the other hand tastes 100x better than cold brew coffee and takes the same amount of time to make as a traditional pour over! Here’s how you can make it.
What is Flash Brew Coffee?
Flash brew coffee is essentially a pour over that uses half the amount of brew water and is instead swapped out with ice that bypasses the brewing process.
This makes the ratio and dilution the same as a normal pour over but gives you the benefits of instantly serving your pour over chilled.
Flash Brew Coffee Recipe:
Ingredients :
20g Coffee Beans
150g Hot water (90-95ºc)
150g Ice Cubes
Aji Filter Conical 02 Size
Hario V60 Switch Dripper
Coffee Server
Coffee Brewing Scale
Recipe :
Before we make flash brewed coffee we first have to set up our coffee dripper, start by placing your Aji Filter inside the Hario V60 Switch and place this over you coffee server. Close the valve in the switch and pour some hot water to set the filter and bring the glass v60 up to a hotter temperature, make sure to get rid of this water before brewing.
Weigh out 20g of filter roasted coffee and grind it to a medium-fine grind size. You should aim to grind a little finer than you would for a traditional pour over recipe and place the coffee grounds inside your dripper. At this stage also place the 150g of ice in your server.
Now it’s time to start brewing, close the Hario switch valve and pour all of your hot water into the dripper. Try your best to cover all the grounds evenly and feel free to use a spoon or stick to stir the coffee grounds.
At the 3 minute mark flick the switch down and let your coffee draw down over the ice cubes, the hot coffee will melt the ice and your beverage will start to cool down and cool to a refreshing temperature. Stir your coffee to mix all the hot coffee and ice and allow your drink to cool down for around 1-3 minutes before serving.
