OREA V4 X AJI CIRCLE FILTER
We are always excited to explore and share our experiences with various coffee brewing methods and new equipment.
Recently, we had the pleasure of testing our highly anticipated Orea V4 coffee dripper with our Aji Circle Filters and we're thrilled to report that it was a perfect match! (Just as we expected).
In this article, we'll delve into the recipe we used, the resulting taste profile we achieved, and why the Aji Circle Filter and Orea V4 dripper make such a harmonious combination.
The Setup
The Recipe
Before brewing it is important to first set your Aji Circle Filter, to do this easily lay your cotton coffee filter over an Orea Negotiator Tool and centre it.
Next fold the edges over evenly to mimick the shape of the Negotiator tool, place the Orea V4 Dripper on top and flip everything the correct way before removing the negotiator tool.
Watch a video on how to do this here.
Prepare the Coffee: Measure out 20 grams of coffee beans and grind it to around 15 clicks on the Comandante C40. This grind size is typically finer than what you would normally use for pour over coffee.
Heat the Water: Bring 300 grams of water to 95ºC. The precise temperature is crucial to extract the best flavours from the coffee without over extraction. Depending on the coffee you use you will need to adjust your variables slightly.
Pre-Wet the Filter: Place the Aji Circle Filter into the Orea V4 dripper and pre-wet it using hot water. This step helps remove any remaining flavours from previous brews and warms up the dripper.
Add Coffee to Dripper: Pour the ground coffee into the filter, and ensure you have an even bed of coffee grounds by stirring the grounds with a toothpick.
Start the Pour: Begin your first pour, allowing the coffee to bloom. Pour 60 grams of water and let it sit for about 30 seconds.
Subsequent Pours: Continue with four additional pours, each adding 60 grams of water. Aim to pour in a circular motion, maintaining an even saturation of the coffee grounds.
Total Brew Time: The entire brewing process should take 3 minutes, yielding a well-balanced cup. Don’t pay too much attention on your brew time, taste your coffee and make adjustments based off the taste!
The Taste
For this test, we used a washed Ethiopian coffee from Everyday Coffee. The result was incredibly rich and creamy, with prominent apricot tasting notes. The coffee was clean and smooth, showcasing the delicate and intricate flavours typical of high quality washed Ethiopian coffees.
