What is Hand Loomed Cotton?
Hand loomed cotton is not just any cotton material it has a story woven from the threads of history, culture, and flaunts the skills of it’s crafter. Unlike its machine-produced counterparts, handloomed cotton is created using traditional old school looms operated by skilled artisans.
This process involves interlacing yarns of cotton to create fabric without the use of electricity or modern machinery, making it a sustainable choice that supports both the environment and the livelihoods of artisans.
How OUR MATERIAL IS made
First the cotton is grown and picked, the fibres are separated and spun on a machines that pull the fibres into a fine thread.
After this the fibres are threaded into a machine that called a ‘Loom’ the artisan places their feet on the pedals below and pushes and pulls a thread through to create a warp and weft in the material.
This is all done by hand and inspected on site for quality control.
Benefits of Hand-loomed cotton
The reason why we chose a hand-loomed cotton for our Aji Filters was because the size of the holes were the perfect size to let through just enough coffee oils and particles through without introducing any negative tastes associated with the cotton.
The Cotton is also incredibly lightweight, allowing for a better contact with the coffee dripper. This helps to increase the water - coffee contact time and increases the textural taste of the coffee.
